Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Employees at the Berteau Campus Will Soon be Out of Work

Program closings will result in about 100 layoffs.

About 100 people will be out of work when Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare and food services at the Berteau campus in February.

The healthcare system, as required by Illinois law, has notified the Illinois Department of Commerce of the layoffs and is working with local agencies to help employees find other jobs.

The layoffs may be temporary for some employees, who may be transferred into alternate positions within the organization, according to a press release from EMHC.

"It is anticipated that several employees will be retained by the health system," the release said.

For those who will not, outplacement services are being offered; EMHC is working with the DuPage County Workforce Development Division to help them find jobs, the release said.

On Feb. 28, services at the transitional care center and the behavioral health program will be suspended until a certificate of need permit to permanently shut down services is granted by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board.

"EMHC will be working with other area providers to ensure continued access for patients to these services," the release said.

Other services at the Berteau campus, including the , outpatient behavioral health services and immediate care/occupational health, will remain at the site until they are permanently relocated.

The closures, which were , are necessary to convert the Berteau campus into a full-service senior care center. Plans for a full continuum of care include health services, independent housing, long-term care and assisted living. The organization is in the process of finding a partner to operate the facility.
