Elmhurst Firm Plans to Build $35 Million Alternative Fuel Plant

SynSel Energy is headed up to Wisconsin to build a plant that will turn wood into diesel fuel.

An Elmhurst firm has been courting officials in Juneau County, Wisc., looking to build a $35 million plant that will turn wood into synthetic diesel fuel, according to an article in the Portage Daily Register.

SynSel Energy CEO Timothy Tawoda on Tuesday presented to Juneau County Board members his plan to build the plant in the town of Clearfield, which is near plenty of forest land, sawmills and the Canadian Pacific Railway, according to the paper.

The Juneau County Economic Development Corp. is on board with the plan, according to the article.

When the plant begins operations sometime in 2015, it will be able to turn 50 tons of wood into 4,600 gallons of synthetic fuel in a day. Production is expected to quadruple in Phase II.

SynSel is located in Elmhurst's industrial enclave between Lake Street and Interstate 290.
