Could Whole Foods Be Moving Into Elmhurst Dominick's Location?

Crain's says talks are in the works.

Whole Foods is reportedly interested in purchasing seven local Dominick's stores, including the one at 215 S. Route 83 in Elmhurst, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

Crain's said the information is unofficial, and it quoted "sources," who were quick to caution that the deals could still fall through. Elmhurst City Manager Jim Grabowski told Elmhurst Patch last month that the store's future was unknown.

The article also lists the 11 Dominick's stores being pursued by Mariano's parent company, Roundy's Inc. They include stores in Western Springs and Aurora.

Roundy's CEO Bob Mariano told Crain's the acquisition is "transformational in terms of Mariano's expansion plans," as build-out only takes 30 to 45 days.

Bob Mariano was CEO of Dominick's prior to its sale to Safeway in the late 1990s.

Jewel-Osco's parent company bought four stores in October and is considering 10 more.
