Café and Restaurant Proposed for Bleeding Heart Bakery, Smoothie Factory Sites

The vacant shop that formerly housed Bleeding Heart Bakery may soon become a "grab-and-go" café, and the Smoothie Factory next door may soon convert to a sit-down restaurant with full-service bar if a proposal is accepted by Elmhurst City Council.

The restaurant proposal, put forth by Lawrence Gunther of WYR Restaurant LLC, is for an American-English pub with a menu that includes bangers and mash, fish and chips, sheppard's pie and other traditional English fare "with a modern American twist." It would have a full-service bar offering "an array of craft beers, custom cocktails and a late-night dinner menu," according to the proposal submitted to the city. Breakfast also would be served.

The café side would offer a variety of pastries and breakfast sandwiches, as well as coffee and tea, from 6 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday.

The two businesses share a common hallway at their 116 S. York St. location.

The proposal is on the City Council's Monday, Nov. 5, agenda and will likely be referred to the Public Affairs and Safety Committee for discussion.
