Youth "Sleep Out" for the Homeless - First United Methodist Church

Members of the youth group of First United Methodist Church of Elmhurst will be working to "Make a Change" on Saturday, November 5-6 as they sleep outside in tents, cardboard boxes and cars to raise awareness and support for homeless families in DuPage County.  The junior and senior high youth, friends and members of the congregation will be sleeping outside at the church, located at 232 S. York Road in Elmhurst.

The event, called “Sleep Out Saturday,” is sponsored by Bridge Communities, the largest provider of transitional housing for homeless families in DuPage County.  Over 1,200 sleepers will participate around DuPage County.  Pledges are collected by sleepers to raise money to support homeless families enrolled in the Bridge Communities transitional housing program.

First Church friends will receive a soup supper at the church Saturday night and will attend worship services Sunday morning in a “come as you are” fashion, just as many who are homeless do.  And they’ll likely be cold, hungry … and humbled.
