York HS Orchestras perform concert with ISU Symphony

On Thursday, October 6, the York Cadet, Concert, and Symphony Orchestras, under the direction of Ray Ostwald, will perform their eighth annual concert combined with special guests, the Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Glenn Block.

The combined York Cadet Orchestra and ISU Symphony will open the program with A Salute to Rodgers and Hammerstein which features familiar melodies from classic the musicals Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, The King and I and Carousel. The combined York Concert Orchestra and ISU Symphony will present a medley of orchestral music featured in classic Bugs Bunny cartoons, including famous melodies of Johannes Brahms, Gioachino Rossini, Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner.

The combined York Symphony Orchestra and ISU Symphony will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt (1811-1886) with a performance of his powerful tone poem Les Preludes, along with the energetic “Farandole” from Georges Bizet’s L'Arlésienne Suite.

The ISU Symphony will also perform Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol and Emmanuel Chabrier’s España.

The concert begins at 7:30 PM in York's Baker Auditorium and is open to the public. For those who do not have a patron pass, VIP card, staff ID or student activity pass, the cost to attend the concert is $5 per person. If you are 60 or older and are a resident of District 205, please be our special guest at any fine arts program.
