"Shakespeare in Hollywood" Mother's Day Special

Moms get free admission when accompanied by a paying customer, and a flower while supplies last, for GreenMan Theatre Troupe's “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” by Ken Ludwig, who has also written “Lend Me a Tenor” and “Moon over Buffalo.” Set in Hollywood in 1935, real-life director Max Reinhardt is on the verge of filming the Warner Brothers’ movie version of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Cast in this production are well known stars Dick Powell, James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, and Joe E. Brown. The “real” Oberon and Puck from Shakespeare’s play are magically transported onto the set and are mistaken for the actors portraying them. When Puck mistakenly unleashes the power of his magic flower, which causes those under its spell to fall in love with the first person they see, to the wrong individuals, hilarity ensues due to the romantic confusion and culture shock.
