Elmhurst Children's Theatre presents 'Bye Bye Birdie'

Elmhurst Children's Theatre presents Bye Bye Birdie at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at Bryan Middle School.

“Bye Bye Birdie” is a satire on American society and is set in 1958. The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957. Rousing musical numbers and great score made it famous on Broadway. The production is directed by Jason Sperling, with musical direction by Nikki Carnevale and choreography by Colette Carnevale.

Sperling remarks, “The kids are doing great work. We are actually ahead of schedule, which just doesn't happen when you're rehearsing a show. The dances are looking fantastic, and the kids' singing is really strong.  Everyone is making smart, vivid choices about their characters, which makes the scenes funnier, realistic, and touching.  This is a show that the whole family will enjoy."

“It's a really fun play, and energetic, and you'll get right into it," said cast member Jonathon Santos. "You will love all the parts and the actors are just amazing."
