Elmhurst Acoustic Originals

Love is the theme when Elmhurst's own Scottie Long and Jim Crowther bring back the soul of the troubadour with an energetic performance of classic rock favorites and original works.

Crowther grew up in Elmhurst, attending York High School and Elmhurst College. He always had a love of music, studying classical guitar and bass, singing in the choir, and minoring in music in college. He started playing in clubs at age 17 with a couple of different groups over the years. He took some time off after getting married in 2003 but always felt as if that creative niche was missing. He reunited with long time college band mates and started the Jim Crowther Band. Brian Creekmur plays lead guitar and Sean Reidy plays bass. Both are York High School graduates as well. Dean Klinker on drums rounds out the group.

Their music has a pop/jazz feel to it. They will be playing heart-felt, energetic original  pop/rock songs that will keep listeners on their toes. A few covers will be sprinkled in with their own spin put on them. There will be plenty of thoughtful guitar and vocal lines that will capture the attention of music lovers of all types.

Crowther met Scottie Long when Bethel Church needed an extra guitarist for their Christmas music. Another Elmhurst native and York grad, Long describes his music as acoustic rock. He writes  his own material but has also come to play covers in his own styling.

“I perform songs based on how I remember hearing them vs. learning them note for note. That's one nice advantage; I'm not in a traditional cover band so I have the freedom to perform songs the way I like and I can also perform original compositions at my shows."

Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $5 for students and $45 for families. A flexpass can be purchased for use at this and future concerts. Parking is free and the church is handicap-accessible. For more information, visit the church website or contact Bethel United Church of Christ at (630) 279-4040.

Upcoming performances for Music@Bethel include Spektral Quartet playing classical strings on March 18, and Kmang Kmang, a classical guitar “trip hop” group on April 28.
