DuPage Invitational Sculpture and 3-D Art Show to Showcase Countywide Talent

DuPage County will once again recognize sculpture and multi-dimensional methods at the DuPage Invitational Sculpture and 3-D juried art show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Lilacia Park, 227 W. Parkside Ave., Lombard.

DuPage County artists who specialize in sculpture and 3-D media will be vying for cash prizes and scholarships and to have their works appreciated by area residents, dignitaries such as State Rep. Chris Nybo and DuPage County Regional Superintendent of Schools Darleen Ruscitti, as well as other patrons of the arts.

The event is free to the public.

Student artists from Addison Trail, Glenbard West, Naperville North, Neuqua Valley, Willowbrook and York high schools, as well as College of DuPage, Elmhurst College and North Central College, will present their projects from their most recent school year. Established artists from Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lombard, Naperville, Villa Park and Wheaton also will compete for prizes for their unique works.

“The DuPage Invitational Sculpture and 3-D Art Show has turned into a very special event and a wonderful addition to an already special time of the year in our community,” said Laura Fitzpatrick, Lombard District 5 trustee and sculpture show co-chairman. “To date, more than $12,000 in prizes and scholarships have been given to the outstanding artists who have treated Lombard to a beautiful display of artwork in Lilacia Park over the past three years. These artists have shown that supporting the sculpture and 3-D art genre is quite worthwhile."

“Putting the show together this year has been very exciting,” said Sharon Vish, sculpture show co- chairman. “This years’ artistic submissions are incredible. We are so very pleased to be able to introduce these talented artists to an appreciative audience."

“The continued growth of this event and the enthusiastic participation by very talented local artists is wonderful,” said Marj Placek, president of the Lombard Arts Coalition.

Among the many participants involved in the DuPage Invitational are the Lombard Arts Coalition, Friends of the DuPage Theatre, Lombard Park District and the Village of Lombard. Committee members also include Deb Dynako, Laura Ellingsen, Cindy Burke, Barb Alvarado, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Peter Kramer and Lombard Park District Program Manager, Jackie Brzezinski. Sponsors of the sculp- ture show include UPS, Union Pacific, Waste Management, Klein Thorpe & Jenkins, The Lombard Westin, The Lombardian/Villa Park Review and Quik Impressions.
