Elmhurst doesn't have its own Fourth of July parade or fireworks show, but it does have a "4 on the 4th" race, and there are plenty of fests, parades and fireworks displays nearby.
Here is a rundown of Fourth of July events happening in the local area.
Beginning at 7:15 a.m. on July 4, Elmhurst Running Club, in cooperation with platinum sponsors with The Runner’s Soul and Prairie Path and Ankle Clinic, will present the tenth annual 4 on the 4th 4-mile run. The race begins on Prospect Avenue near Church Street. Race Day registration is $30, or sign up in advance by 1 a.m. July 1 for $25.
Following the July 4 parade at 10 a.m., come out to Redmond Park for games, music and food, followed by fireworks. Bands take the stage at 3 p.m. and play all night. Free public swimming at Water’s Edge and free public skating at Edge II Ice Arena take place from noon to 4 p.m. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. and promise to be “bigger and better than ever.”
The Bensenville Fourth of July 4 Parade steps off at 10 a.m. at 12 South Center Street in Town Center, travels east on Green Street, continues south on York Road and finishes off at the Redmond Recreational Complex at on Jefferson Street.
The Villa Park July 4 parade, hosted by Villa Park VFW Post 2801, will step off at noon from the Trinity Church parking lot on Ardmore Avenue in Villa Park. The parade will go west on Central to Harvard, south on Harvard to Madison, east on Madison to Summit, north on Summit to Park, west on Park to Ardmore.
Enjoy food, fun and fireworks on the Oak Brook Polo Grounds, on 31st Street between York and Spring roads, from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.
Food will be provided by such restaurants as Freshii, Gibsons, Kona Grill, Labriola, Pinstripes, Tuscany, Devon and besides being the Taste's presenting sponsor, McDonald's will be serving McCafe Smoothies too! Bands will perform all day until the fireworks, at dusk.
The Taste of Lombard begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, and runs straight through Saturday night July 5, with tons of bands, a carnival, food and fireworks. Admission is $3.
The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m. July 4. Presented by the Lombard Jaycees.
The Bo Deans, Blue Oyster Cult, Love and Theft, Foghat, Roger Hodgson (former lead singer of Super Tramp), George Thorogood and the Destroyers, are the headliners among the many bands at Ribfest.
