Winter Weather Advisory Issued for New Year's Eve

How much snow is expected? Read on.

If you're planning to go out on New Year's Eve, you may want to keep an eye on the forecast.

Much of northern Illinois is under a winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory area includes Lake, McHenry, Cook, DuPage, Kane, Boone, Ogle, DeKalb and Winnebago counties.

Northern Illinois could see snow Monday evening through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Up to an inch of snow is forecast for Monday night into Tuesday. The heavier snow is forecast to fall from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, with 3 to 5 inches of snow expected

"Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities," according to National Weather Service officials.
