Weekend Begins With the Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Wilder Park

1. VETERANS DAY CEREMONY
When/Where:
10:30 a.m. Friday, Wilder Park Veteran's Memorial, Prospect and Church streets
Why Go: President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed a day of remembrance, then known as Armistice Day, on Nov. 11, 1919, to mark the end of World War I, and the U.S. Congress declared it a legal holiday in 1938. Elmhurst veterans and their families will gather at in a formal ceremony to honor all veterans, both living and dead, who fought to keep our country free.
Cost: Free

2. MEET PUSS IN BOOTS!
When/Where:
noon Friday at , 150 N. York St.
Why Go: Do you even have to ask? Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras to take photos as their kids meet Puss In Boots. The animated film is on screen in both 3D and 2D formats at the York.

3. WILDER MANSION HOLIDAY MARKET
When/Where:
4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at , 211 Prospect Ave.
Why Go: Nothing will get you in the mood for the holidays like this brand new market, and proceeds will support United Community Concerns. You'll find one-of-a-kind art, crafts and seasonal gifts, including ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry and more. It's the first time for , but we're pretty sure it won't be the last.
Cost: $20 on Friday (includes appetizers and wine), free on Saturday

4. VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST
When/Where:
9 a.m. Saturday at commons, 355 W. St. Charles Road
Why Go: The kids at York that not enough was being done to honor our veterans, so they decided to kick off an to do just that. Veterans and their families can enjoy eggs and bacon and lots of other goodies. Just leave a message for Student Council advisor Matt Moran at 630-617-2400, Ext. 7285, and let him know how many guests in your group.
Cost: Free, of course

5. THE ANNUAL TURKEY TESTICLE FESTIVAL
When/Where: From noon until 1 a.m. at the , 310 W. Butterfield Road
Why Go: It's time again for the annual (*ahem*) at the American Legion Hall, and believe me, those veterans know how to have a good time. In addition to the catchy name, you'll enjoy live bands ALL DAY, lots of fun and food that includes, you guessed it, unusual turkey parts. Everybody is welcome. The event is a fund-raiser for the American Legion.
Cost: All this fun for just a $6 cover charge
