The Sights of Elmhurst's 93rd Annual Memorial Day Parade

More than 75 entries participated in parade on Monday.

Led by Grand Marshal Edwin H. Walker IV, a decorated Major in the United States Marine Corps, Elmhurst's 93rd Annual Memorial Day Parade stepped off Monday with more than 75 entries.

The parade featured vehicles representing fire departments scouting, groups, musical entries from local schools and dance entries, along with political leaders.

The parade is presented by the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Elmhurst American Legion T.H.B. Post 187, Elmhurst Veterans of Foreign Wars Walter A. Glos Post 2048 and the City of Elmhurst.

Also participating were color guards, retired military officers from the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, members of American Legion and VFW and Civil War re-enactors.

The parade steped off from York Road and Third Street, and concluded with a military ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Wilder Park.

The ceremony at the Elmhurst Veterans Memorial featured speeches by Elmhurst Mayor Pete DiCianni and others, and the laying of wreaths by military personnel. The names of 66 Elmhurst area veterans who passed away since Veterans Day 2010 were read aloud in remembrance.
