Be Scared, Take in a Play, Raise Money for KOFK or Check Out Some Barbershop Music

'Tis the season for spooky stories for the whole family.

Enjoy everything Elmhurst has to offer. In addition to the at York tonight, here are a few other ideas for the weekend. We couldn't list it all here, so be sure to check out our calendar for more events. And, as always, tell us what we missed in the comments.

1. THE COUNTRY WIFE
Where/When:
8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday at Mill Theater, 190 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: Long before the racy antics of “real housewives” and the steamy editing of reality TV shows, William Wycherley’s play dealt with all manner of racy, comic, and bawdy situations–in the terminology of the day, of “country matters.”
Cost: $7.

2. OKTOBERFEST
Where/When:
4 p.m. Saturday at , 645 S. Route 83, Elmhurst.
Why Go: Live blues with Killer Ray Allison. Drinks, auction games and more. Benefit for .
Cost: $10.

3. SPOOKY STORIES
Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at , 232 S. York St.
Why Go: The features performers who attended GreenMan Theatre's recent storytelling class. It is performed in two sets of spooky stories and songs suitable for adults, older children, and families. The first set will contain less scary content. After an intermission, the second act will begin with more intense and scarier stories and songs. Refreshments will be sold during the intermission.
Cost: $5.

4. BARBERSHOP MUSIC
Where/When: 4 p.m. Sunday at , 149 E. Brush Hill Rd.
Why Go: The Choral-Aires Chorus, a Sweet Adelines International medaling chorus, invites community members to enjoy pure barbershop music in a show titled, “.” The show features the Chorus and three regional qualifying quartets performing the show packages to be presented at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Houston, Oct. 17-22.
Cost: $12; $8 for children and seniors.

5. LYRIC LECTURE
Where/When:
2:30-4 p.m. Sunday at , 125 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: Lecturer Barbara DeBolt talks about Gaetano Donizetti's tragic opera "Lucia di Lammermoor."
