Lots of Ways to Have Fun While Helping a Good Cause This Weekend

You can help Kick off for Kids, Japan relief efforts and the Mary K. Steffens Foundation, or attend a play, concert or bike ride.

1. KICK-OFF PARTY FOR ANNIE RYAN RUN
Where/When: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Olympic Chiropractic, 533 S. York Road, Elmhurst
Why go: Pre-register for the Annie Ryan Run. First 500 will be given goodie bags with registration, and there will be a raffle of bikes and gym shoes. Olympic will give stretching tips and Charlie Kern will be the guest speaker. All children in grades kindergarten through eighth are invited. Kick Off Party sponsored by Kickoff for Kids and Olympic Chiropractic.
Cost: Free 

2. AUCTION TO BENEFIT JAPAN
Where/When: 5 p.m. Friday at Elmhurst College Old Main building, 190 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: A silent art auction to benefit relief efforts in Japan will include work contributed by Elmhurst College professors, students, and local and Chicago-area artists. Proceeds go to the Japanese Red Cross Society, and all sales are tax-deductible.

3. SHAKESPEARE IN HOLLYWOOD
Where/When: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at , 232 S. York St.
Why Go: GreenMan Theatre Troupe will stage “,” by Ken Ludwig, who has also written “Lend Me a Tenor” and “Moon over Buffalo.”
Cost: $15, $13 for students and seniors.

4. BOYS & GIRLS
Where/When: 8 p.m. Saturday , 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
Why Go: The New Classic Singers sing and celebrate with classics and show tunes.
Cost: Adults $22, seniors $20, students $10.

5. ABRAHAM LINCOLN
Where/When: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday at Elmhurst College Mill Theatre, 253 W. Walter St.
Why Go: The Elmhurst College Theatre, in association with the Elmhurst Public Library’s commemoration of the Civil War, will present the play , written by John Drinkwater.
Cost: $7, $6 for seniors, $5 for students.

6. MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH
Where/When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at , 122 S. York St.
Why Go: A percentage of the profit will be to the Mary K. Steffens Foundation, which provides scholarships to high school students who display excellence in academia and volunteerism, in support of the fight against cancer.
Cost: Open menu.

7. ELMHURST BICYCLE CLUB
Where/When: 9 a.m. Saturday, May 7, starting at the Elmhurst Depot at York Road and the Prairie Path
Why go: Elmhurst Bicycle Club will embark on a 9- to 11-mile frontage frolic morning warm-up ride. Cyclists will make a loop on the low-traffic frontage roads of south Elmhurst and Oak Brook for about 45 to 50 minutes, returning in time for a second ride at 10 a.m., a 36-mile ride to Two Brothers Brewpub in Warrenville. Call Larry Gitchell at (708) 421-0120.
Cost: Club membership is $20 a year for first time members, $25 for renewal. The ride is free but bring money for food.
