How to Post Your Garage Sale on Patch

Whether you're looking to jettison junk or in search of treasure, Patch is the place to go.

Summer is well underway. Most of us have made a dent in our spring cleaning, and that means yard-sale season is in full swing.

Here at Patch we pride ourselves on local, useful information. That includes which residents have books for a bargain, a dresser in their driveway or some clothes laid out on the lawn.

Posting your garage sale on Elmhurst Patch is easy and, even better, it's free. You must be registered on Patch and logged in to enter an event, so do that first at elmhurst.patch.com/login. Then click on our "Events" tab on the top of the page and on "Put it on the calendar" near the top right corner. Or just go to elmhurst.patch.com/events/new.

Fill out the form, adding information about your sale. You can enter as little or as much as you'd like, but be sure to enter your address and check off "Garage Sales" under categories. When you're all done, click on the "Post My Event" button on the bottom left of the screen, and voila!

Here's a real perk: You can even upload photos of the stuff you're selling.

And, if you're just looking to visit a few garage sales around town, click on "Events" and then "Garage Sales" and you'll be on your way in no time.

Yes, it's that easy—and remember, it's also totally free.

Here are some things the city of Elmhurst wants you to remember:

  • Permits are not necessary to hold a yard sale, but residents are limited to two sales per year.
  • Signs must be no more than 6 square feet and clearly marked with the telephone number of the person responsible for the removal of such sign. They can't be put up more than 24 hours before the sale, and have to be taken down within 24 hours. Signs can't be higher than 4 feet nor closer to any lot line than 6 feet.
  • A maximum of three signs can be placed on public parkways, but those have to be taken down within 12 hours of the end of the sale.
