DIY Summer Theatre, now in its sixth season, invites high school and returning college students to try out for the company's first-ever summer intensive program.
Actors will work closely together to stage the pop-rock musical, "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson."
This edgy “cult” show is set in the Wild West and tells the story of America’s first maverick president--Andrew Jackson-- who kicked British butt, shafted the Indians, and smacked down the Spaniards, all for the sake of the populist vote. (Warning: This offbeat musical features adult themes, strong language—and a killer rock score.)
DIY Theatre seeks actors and singers who move well for all roles. Auditions are open to grades 10-12, plus returning college students and young adults. Prepare 32 bars of music from the show. Actors may be asked to improvise or read from the script. Bring your best “front-man” act.
First auditions are Monday, May 19 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with callbacks on Tuesday, May 21 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church (corner of North and York in Elmhurst). Callbacks will be on Thursday, May 22 at 4 p.m.
Visit DIY Theatre's website to sign up for an audition slot or call Helen at 630- 242 0570. If you want to try out but can’t make the audition date, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Rehearsals begin in late June and run according to the availability of cast members.
Actors will not be called to every rehearsal and we will work around your summer schedule wherever possible. Performances are July 18 and 20 in the Music Room at Fitz’s Spare Keys in Elmhurst.
If cast, there is a participation fee of $135 to cover script rental, special costume pieces, performance venue rental, etc.
