An Afternoon in the Garden: Elmhurst Garden Walk and Faire is July 8

Elmhurst Garden Club invites the community to spend a pleasant Sunday morning or afternoon exploring the horticultural delights created by the owners of the eight outstanding and unique gardens selected for its 17th annual Garden Walk from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 8.  Elmhurst Garden Club members and garden advisors will be on hand to answer questions at the gardens.

“This year’s walk promises to be a community event that should not be missed. You will be surprised by the creativity and beauty of these outstanding gardens. The garden selection committee has, once again, put together an educational and inspiring collection of local gardens and gardeners willing to share their outdoor havens with the community,” said Norma Farrell, president.

Visitors will begin the garden walk by obtaining a garden guide at Wilder Park. Visitors may also enjoy exploring Wilder Park and its conservatory and award-winning herb garden, which will feature Chinese herbs this year.

encourage students to study horticulture. In addition, proceeds have been and will continue to be used to support other community projects, including horticultural and conservation projects at Elmhurst District 205 schools, Elmhurst College Arboretum, Elmhurst Park District, Churchville School House, Elmhurst Public Library and YMCA Children's Summer Camp scholarships.

“The Elmhurst Garden Club has donated more than$170,000 from Garden Walk proceeds since the inception of the event 17 years ago, including thousands of dollars in scholarship money each year to worthy recipients. Applications are now being accepted and can be found at www.elmhurstgardenclub.org.,” President Norma Farrell said.

This year is the 86th anniversary of the club.
