Elmhurst Resident to Host Book Signing at Barnes and Noble

Elmhurst resident Emily Demuth Ishida will hold a book signing for her new novel, Plank Road Winter, at Barnes and Noble at Oakbrook Center Mall from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10. 

Ishida is a member of the York Music Parents Association, and her children, David, Hans-Martin and Louisa, all have been very involved in the York band program. The book signing coincides with the York Music Parents Association Book Fair, which is on the same day at Barnes & Noble.

The book store will donate a portion of its proceeds to YMPA. Customers just need to mention York music, and their purchases will be included in the Barnes and Noble donation.

Published by Crickhollow Books in October, Ishida co-authored the historical novel with her sister Hilda Demuth.

Set in post-Civil War Wisconsin, Plank Road Winter is the story of 13-year-old Sophie, who longs for excitement beyond her country home, and 12-year-old Hans, who escaped to Wisconsin from the Great Chicago Fire. Hans has to learn to accept loss and his new life in the country, and face the future.

Plank Road Winter is a sequel to Plank Road Summer, a historical novel set in Yorkville, Wisc., about two pioneer girls who become involved in the Underground Railroad. The Demuth sisters grew up in Yorkville and have lovingly written this series exploring the hardship and wonders of the Plank Road community in the mid- to late-1800s.
