Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade Steps High

Elmhurst remembers the fallen on Memorial Day.

Hundreds turned out for the City of Elmhurst's 96th annual salute to the Armed Forces on Monday.

Led by Grand Marshal U.S. Army Colonel Robert Bracki, Elmhurst's Memorial Day Parade stepped off with more than 75 entries, featuring local veterans, scout troops, first responders, organizations, school bands and politicians.

The parade is presented by the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Elmhurst American Legion T.H.B. Post 187, Elmhurst Veterans of Foreign Wars Walter A. Glos Post 2048 and the City of Elmhurst.

Also participating were color guards, retired military officers from the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, members of American Legion and VFW and Civil War re-enactors.

The parade concluded with a military ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Wilder Park. Military representatives laid wreaths and the names of Elmhurst area veterans who passed away since Veterans Days 2013 were read aloud in remembrance.
