Bike to Work Week Ends Today, But That's No Reason to Stop Riding

From 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. today, Friday, June 17, bike riders can enjoy free coffee at the Elmhurst Metra Station.

Bike to Work Week wraps up today, but bikes are always a great alternative method of transportation. That's the message DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin of Elmhurst wanted to get across when he helped kick off the week last Monday, June 13.

In order to set an example and make a statement of support for the use of bikes as an alternative form of transportation, Cronin biked from Elmhurst to his office at the DuPage County Complex in Wheaton.

He had some company in this effort.  The chairman was joined by his wife and son, Mayor Peter DiCianni, Elmhurst aldermen Kevin York and Diane Gutenkauf, members of the Elmhurst Bike Club, and others in the biking community for the 12-mile trip along the Illinois Prairie Path. The chairman made it to his desk by 8:30 a.m. Unlike the previous week, when it was either too hot or too cold, the weather cooperated most of this week for a pleasant morning ride.
