Adventist LaGrange Birth Center Receives Prestigious Accreditation

Natural Birth Center which offers customized water birthing certified by Commission for the Accreditation of Birthing Centers.

The Natural Birth Center at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, which allows women to have a customized water birthing experience with minimal intervention, has received accreditation by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC). The CABC measures the quality of care offered against national quality standards.

The Natural Birth Center at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital opened its doors in August 2013. This birth center is the only CABC-accredited birth center in the state of Illinois at this time. This accreditation confirms the center’s commitment to the community in providing not only more options for the birth experience, but also ensuring the highest quality and safety of families and infants.

“Since opening, the Natural Birth Center has given mothers a new opportunity to deliver their baby in a home- like setting,” said Mary Murphy, Chief Nursing Officer. “Everyone can have peace of mind knowing that medical intervention is only steps away.”

The CABC is the only national accrediting body solely dedicated to the assessment and accreditation of birth centers. The CABC is comprised of consumers and professionals in the fields of midwifery, obstetrics, family practice, nursing, neonatology, pediatrics and health care administration.

Accreditation is a mark of excellence – a signal to families, insurers, regulators and other healthcare providers that the center has been reviewed by outside evaluators and found to provide consistent, high quality care.

Certified nurse midwives and licensed healthcare practitioners work with the hospital’s Labor and Delivery nurses and OB-GYNs to provide service at the center. This allows mothers to plan for natural water childbirth, with the added security of an adjacent fully-staffed hospital Birth Center.

The center is designed to provide patients with the most home-like setting possible, offering the latest options and accessories for birthing, such as a birthing rope, yoga mat and bean bag chair.

The Natural Birth Center houses two birthing suites. Each suite is equipped with a queen-sized bed, a hydrotherapy tub, rocking chair, flat-panel television, refrigerator, microwave and smartphone docking station.
