Elmhurst YMCA’s Stone Open Honors Ray Stone

The Elmhurst YMCA is pleased to announce that Ray Stone has been selected to receive the Good Samaritan Award at the upcoming Stone Open Golf Tournament.  This event will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Maple Meadows Golf Club in Wood Dale.  Ray will be acknowledged at dinner that evening.

Presented in memory of longtime YMCA friend Bob Hummel, the Good Samaritan Award was created to honor someone in our community that has shown support to Elmhurst as a whole and to the YMCA as well.

Ray has certainly earned this prestigious award!  A resident of Elmhurst since 1967, he and his wife Grace have six children and 16 grand children.  A pharmacist by trade, Ray is the founder and president of HealthSmartRX Consulting Company after a long career with Jewel Osco and Dominick’s Finer Foods.  Along with wearing his HealthSmartRX hat, Ray has found many hours to give back to the Elmhurst community.  He has offered his time and talents to Jefferson School Cub Scouts, Elmhurst Boys Baseball (Manager and Treasurer), Elmhurst Park District Commissioner (6 years) and Elmhurst Park District Board President (1976).

As for the Elmhurst YMCA, Ray has been involved for 46 years and is the founder of the YMCA Stone Open.  The Stone Open began as a family outing in 1988, however in the late 1990’s, Ray suggested partnering with the YMCA with the proceeds benefiting the organization.  As a result, the tournament raises approximately $15,000 annually for the “Stronger Together” Annual Scholarship Program.

All proceeds from this scramble go directly to the Elmhurst YMCA’s “Stronger Together” Annual Scholarship Program which benefits local youth, families, and seniors that would not otherwise be able to take part in YMCA programs.  Please call Angie Flesch at 630-929-2480 for more information.
