Bethel United Church of Christ Breaks Ground for Welcome Center

On Sunday, June 8, Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley and Aldermen Norman Leader and Kevin York joined Pastor Gretchen Sylvester, Bethel Council President Chris Bobowski and the congregation of Bethel United Church of Christ for the groundbreaking of the Bethel Welcome Center.

The construction of the new center will complete a six year, $3 million “Journey Forward” Campaign to fund expanded programming and facilities for Bethel’s congregation and the community at large.

In addition to adding the Welcome Center, the construction of which is expected to be completed by year-end, Bethel purchased two properties on Huntington Lane, one of which was converted to the Bethel Administration Center, funded the position of Christian Education and Youth Director, and completed extensive repairs and upgrades to the existing church and Bethel Learning Center facilities.

The architectural firm providing design and space planning for the project is Jaeger, Nickola, Kuhlman Associates and construction management is provided by Frederick Quinn Corporation. Community Bank of Elmhurst is providing construction financing.

Bethel UCC was founded in 1953 and is an open and affirming congregation of the UCC where everyone is welcome. It has many ministries for all ages including the Bethel Learning Center for pre-school children, adult and youth education and mission trips, community service projects, numerous fellowship gatherings such as the Thanksgiving Feast, Victorian Tea and Grace Cafe, and an exceptional music program showcased through the “Music at Bethel” concert series now in its 15th season, led by Bethel’s Minister of Music and piano virtuoso, Jeffrey Panko.

Bethel UCC is located at 315 E. St. Charles Rd. in Elmhurst.  For more information please call 630-279-4040.
