York qualifies swimmers to IHSA State Meet

The Dukes qualified three individuals in three events for state and two of York's relay teams qualified to the girls swimming and diving IHSA meet Nov. 22 -23.

York High School Girls Swim and Dive (181) finished third in the Downers Grove North IHSA Sectional won by Downers Grove North (293) in the 13-team meet Saturday afternoon Nov.  16.

Along with two of York’s relay teams, the Dukes qualified three individuals in three events for the state meet Nov. 22 -23 at New Trier High School.

In all, six York swimmers go to IHSA competition next weekend.

The first-place finisher in each event and those achieving qualifying time standards move on to state.

Senior Hannah Nolte swam a qualifying time in the 100-yard backstroke (59.54) which was a state cut qualifying time. Paula Nolte, a sophomore, placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.14) with a state cut qualifying time.  Earlier in the afternoon, junior Jessica Woolfe finished fourth the 50-yard freestyle (24.59) to move on to the state meet in that individual event.

Senior Perri Brinkmeier, teamed with sophomore Maggie Schlecht, H. Nolte and Woolfe to come in fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (state-qualifying time of 1:39.10). Brinkmeier (25.58) Schlecht (24.90) H. Nolte (24.46) Woolfe (24.16) 1.39.10* set a York High School record. 

To start the meet H. Nolte teamed with her sister P. Nolte plus Sam Marlott and Woolfe to show second in the 200-yard medley relay (state-qualifying time of 1:48.95).  H. Nolte (27.47), P. Nolte (30.12), Marlott (27.33) and Woolfe (24.03) * also set a York High School record.

Several pool records were set. Winner Downers Grove North’s 200-yard medley relay team qualified in 1:42.48 with the fastest time in Illinois this season.  That shattered their pool record by six seconds as the sectional was again one of the faster of the 16 sectionals held in Illinois Saturday.

Gabby Sims (51.19) from Downers Grove North set or teamed to set four other pool records on the day including topping by more than a full second the 100-freestyle record that had stood since 1979.

The other top York individual finishers with medal placements were:

Perri Brinkmeier – 50-yard freestyle 25.16 – 6th place

Alision Brodt – 500-yard freestyle 5:18.24 – 5th place

Maggie Schlecht– 100-yard freestyle 55.12– 6th place

Hannah Nolte – 200 IM 2:11.32 - 2nd place

Paula Nolte – 200 IM 2:14.03 – 4th place

Brinkmeier, Schlecht, Marlott and Paige Jaeger 400 freestyle relay 3:45.18 – 6th place

Freshman Katie Fischer set a new Frosh- Soph diving record (281.30) for York Saturday morning at the sectional.

"It was yet another outstanding meet.  We're all looking forward to Friday."  said Coach Sarah Pauly.
