York Dukes Power to Second at Downers Grove South Invite Oct. 5

While St. Charles East looked strong the Dukes dug in and bested DGN, Stagg, Wheaton, Metea Valley, DGS and Bloomington at Oct 5 Invitational.

Downers Grove, IL – York High School Girls Swim and Dive finished second (361 points) in Saturday’s Invitational Meet of 8 Chicago area and Northern Illinois teams hosted by Downers Grove South High School.  Led by the relay performers that took two seconds and a third, York’s Dukes racked up points in other individual races as well. 

Leading swimmers for York that finished in the top six in individual events were:

▪ sixth in the 200 IM by Paula Nolte 

▪ third in 100 backstroke by Jessica Woolfe,

▪ fifth in 100 backstroke by Hannah Nolte,

▪ third in 100 freestyle Woolfe, 

▪ third in the 100 breaststroke by P. Nolte,

A stellar performance by St. Charles East  placed them first overall at the Invite, ahead of the Dukes’ second place finish (361).   St. Charles East posted three pool records and another meet record in their performance. Downer Grove North was third, and Metea Valley, Wheaton, Downers Grove South, Stagg and Bloomington High School in order rounded out the field.

York’s team depth helped the Dukes in the relays component of the Invite. The Dukes placed second in the medley relay (H. Nolte, Sam Marlott, P. Nolte, Woolfe) with a time of 1:54.53, second in the 200 freestyle relay (Woolfe, H. Nolte, Perri Brinkmeier,  Maggie Schlect) in 1:43.32, and fifth in the 400 freestyle relay (Brinkmeier, Paige Jaeger, Alison Brodt, Schlecht) in 3:56.15.

Swimmers at the Downers Grove South Invite were York seniors Perri Brinkmeier, Hannah Nolte, Kirsten Rasnic, Lauren Tamm, Paige Wrasse and Juliana Reinhofer, juniors Maddie Kliebhan, Alison Brodt, Sam Marlott, Jessica Woolfe, Katie Sullivan, and Paige Jaeger; sophomores Lydia Faber, Maggie Schlecht,  Sarina Kao, Winona Asher and Paula Nolte, and freshman Amalia Siavelis, Ailie Orzak,  Meaghan McIntyre, and Amy Choi. York continues conference season with a Friday dual away meet against Hinsdale Central.

York upended the Glenbard West/South Coop in their dual conference meet Thursday, Oct. 3 with a convincing 136-49 win.  York’s record is 2-1 in the WSC Silver conference and is 3-1 overall in dual meets. York now has two seconds in Invitational (DGS and York) and a third (Hinsdale South). Next Saturday York travels to Barrington to contest in its crowded meet.
