By Alan Brinkmeier                                   September 14, 2013

Hinsdale, IL – York High School Girls Swim and Dive finished third (221 points) in Saturday’s Invitational Meet of 12 Chicago area and Northern Illinois teams hosted by Hinsdale South High School.  Led by the relay performers on the team that took first, two seconds and a third in four of the six relay events, York’s Dukes racked up points in other individual races as well.  York scored first place points in the 50 freestyle by junior Jessica Woolfe.  Senior Hannah Nolte captured first place points in the 100 yard backstroke and showed third in the 200 IM.

▪ fifth in diving by junior Leah Young,

▪ fifth in the 500 freestyle by Brodt,

▪ third in the 100 IM breaststroke by sophomore Paula Nolte.

In diving, York scored 11 points for the Dukes with solid performances of Young and freshman newcomer Katie Fischer.  Diving coach Larry Barcheski was very pleased with their showing.  "Both the divers did really well.  Leah finished fifth overall and Katie came in twelfth out of all the divers today." praised Barcheski.

Lockport High School placed first overall (260) at the Invite, ahead of Lincolnway East’s second place finish (225).  Lake Park, Palatine and West Chicago rounded out the top six. Other schools competing along with the host Hinsdale South were Chicago Latin School, Andrew, Bradley-Bourbonnais, Riverside-Brookfield and Bloomington High School.

York’s team depth helped the Dukes in the relays component of the Invite. The Dukes placed second in the JV 200 medley relay (senior Brinkmeier, junior Sam Marlott, senior Juliana Reinhofer, sophomore Maggie Schlecht) with a time of 1:52.21, third in varsity 200 freestyle relay (Brinkmeier, P. Nolte, junior Paige Jaeger, Woolfe) in 1:45.74, and second in the varsity 400 freestyle relay (Woolfe, Brinkmeier, H. Nolte and Jaeger) in 3:46.99. Meet points were also awarded for the first place finish of the JV 200 freestyle relay (sophomore Lydia Faber, junior Maddie Kliebhan, sophomore Sarina Kao and Marlott) with a winning time of 1:49.14. The other two York relay teams were disqualified with exchange errors between swimmers that cost the Dukes a higher finish and the chance to defend their 2012 Invite Championship.

Swimmers at the Hinsdale South Invite were York seniors Perri Brinkmeier, Hannah Nolte and Juliana Reinhofer, juniors Maddie Kliebhan, Allison Brodt, Sam Marlott, Jessica Wolfe, Katie Sullivan, diver Leah Young and Paige Jaeger; sophomores Maggie Schlecht, Lydia Faber, Sarina Kao and Paula Nolte and freshman diver Katie Fischer. It is from this strong, overall depth that York hopes to produce IHSA state qualifying performers for this fall. York moves to the conference part of its season with a Thursday dual home meet against Riverside-Brookfield.
