Weekends Are Great, But Thursdays Can Be Fun, Too

It's Thursday, July 25, and, if you're looking for something to do this evening, we found a little something for everyone.

'You Gotta Have Friends'

If your swamp includes kids, head on over to Visitation School, 851 S. York Road, for Shrek, the Musical. The play opens today, but performances also are scheduled through Sunday, July 27.

DIY Teen Theatre will bring all the ogre magic up close and personal, as Shrek and Donkey set out to rescue Princess Fiona (played by Tatum Langley) and win back their swamp.

Performance times are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students, available at the door.

Regretting Mr. Wright

For something a little more sophisticated—the true story of a forbidden love affair—check out Ellie Carlson's portrayal of Mamah Borthwick Cheney, Frank Lloyd Wright's lover.

Both were married to other people, but they ran off together, which was  unheard of for the early 1900s.

Learn about her life as an outcast, her love for Wright and her tragic death, at 7 p.m. at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave.

Admission is free.
