See What District 205 Has Been Up To During Summer Break

School Board will get a summer projects update. And, it looks like breakfast and lunch prices are going up.

Contractors working on buildings in Elmhurst District 205 do not get the summer off. In fact, they've been working hard on fixing up the York Aquatics Center, adding secure entrances and security cameras to schools, replacing bleachers and more.

The District 205 School Board will get an update on all of these summer projects at its regular board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.

But the board also is slated to discuss plenty of other business, as well.

The public will then be invited to speak for up to three minutes on any topic.

This will be followed by a budget discussion, including a 2013 budget recap and a tentative 2014 budget presentation, and then the summer projects update.

The board will approve July 16 minutes and hear a report from the Curriculum and Instruction Committee.

In addition to approval of personnel and financial reports, the superintendent's consent agenda includes the following action:

  • Accept and post tentative 2014 budget
  • Approve phone and email notification system contract
  • Approve an increase of .05 cents per lunch and breakfast cost districtwide due to higher food costs. Elementary and middle school lunches will go from $2.80 to $2.85, and high school lunch will increase from $3.25 to $3.30. Breakfast will go from $1.75 to $1.80 in elementary and middle school, and from 2:50 to $2.55 in high school.
  • Approve the purchase of Google Chromebook computers in middle and high school at a cost not to exceed $100,000
  • Remarketing of surplus technology equipment
  • Approval of policies in their various stages, including policy on Identity protection, safety, drug- and alcohol-free workplace, student teachers, field trips and community use of school facilities.

The board will then vote on the first reading of another new policy, on school safety, and security and video surveillance.

After verifying upcoming meetings, board members will take action on a custodial contract and hear any reports from the board.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the District 205 Administration Offices, 162 S. York. The meeting will be preceded by a closed session of the board at 6 p.m. Discussion topics will be employment of an employee, negotiations, property acquisition and pending litigation.
