Purchase and Personalize Luminaria for Relay For Life
ELMHURST, Ill. – One of the most significant parts of every Relay For Life is the Luminaria Ceremony. Relay For Life of Elmhurst will be held on Friday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m. in Berens Park. At 9 p.m., all individuals at Relay For Life will quiet as the Luminaria are lit. Luminaria are simple, white bags that are transformed with a name, photos, messages or drawings by any individual who wants to honor a friend or loved one who has been affected by cancer. While some may be elaborately decorated, and some may show photos, most will bear a heartfelt message. Others may be labeled to reflect the person being remembered. Luminaria can be purchased for $10 each, as a way to honor those we love and contribute to the efforts of the American Cancer Society.
Elmhurst preschoolers, as well as students at Edison, Emerson and Hawthorne Elementary schools have been asked to decorate Luminaria in an effort to spread awareness about Relay For Life and the work of the local American Cancer Society. The money raised at our Relay is used to fund free wigs for local patients, free rides to treatments and support groups located in DuPage county, 24/7 free phone support, as well as nationwide research.
All are invited to join this family festival. Relay is not athletic, so bring baby strollers, comfortable shoes, and wheelchairs or walkers if needed. All are welcome to enjoy the games, food, and park activities, as well as the on-site fundraising that benefit the American Cancer Society. Come and have fun while supporting a cause that touches us all!

More About Berens Park
Berens Park truly has something for everyone. The original land was acquired by the park district over the course of three years in the mid-'60s, and the park was named after the founder of the Elmhurst Historical Commission, Helmut Berens. The Park District expanded the park in the mid-'70s, and in May 2002, it purchased MacCormac College and turned it into a community center at the north end of the park.
Berens features five lighted ball diamonds, three sand volleyball courts, 12 lighted tennis courts, five irrigated soccer fields, a walking/running path, parking for 600 cars, a 10,000-square-foot playground, batting cages, an 18-hole miniature golf course, 6,000-square-foot sprayground, a pavilion for parties and meetings, concessions, a sledding hill and more.
