Thanks to York coaches, who provided this week in review for Feb. 6-11. Boys Basketball:(Contributed by David Kleinschmidt, Assistant Varsity Coach) The Dukes traveled to Glenbard West Feb. 10 and came home with a 68-41 victory. David Cohn finished with 29 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Matt DiFrancesca had 12 points and 5 assists. Jake Rzeszutko had 10 points 5 assists. The Dukes lost to Oak Park 57-35 on Tuesday Feb. 14. The Dukes take on Downers Grove North Feb. 17. It will be Senior Night, as well as Paint the Gym Purple for Relay for Life. Thank you to York coaches for providing a glimpse into the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 4, and a late-breaking girls basketball update from Feb. 9. Bowling: (Contributed by Kelly Cassidy, head varsity coach) York bowlers are headed to the state meet at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford Friday, Feb. 10. This is the first time in the history of York High School that the bowling team has qualified for state. York High School Week in Review: Dec. 5-10 Boys Basketball(Contributed by David Kleinschmidt, Assistant Varsity Coach) The first home games of the season were Friday, Dec. 16, vs Conference rival Lyons Township. The freshmen won a squeaker 53-52, and the varsity team also beat the Lions, 65-56. The varsity traveled to Proviso West Dec. 9. Boys Basketball:Contributed by David Kleinschmidt, assistant varsity coach The York boys basketball program had a very successful Thanksgiving week. The sophomore team won the Prospect tournament by defeating St. Viator high school in overtime after being down by 11 to start the 4th quarter.  They finished the weekend 4-0. The varsity dropped the opening game to Niles North by 6 but then rallied to win 3 consecutive games and taking 3rd place in the Palatine Thanksgiving tournament. The York girls volleyball team had a memorable 2010 season that climaxed with a fourth-place finish at the Class 4A state finals. On Oct. 18, the Dukes took care of one of the few things they didn’t accomplish last year. York secured its first West Suburban Conference Silver Division championship since 2008 with a 25-21, 25-21 victory at Hinsdale Central. The York girls tennis team’s usual sectional domination reached the highest possible level Oct. 15. The Dukes not only qualified all four of their four entries for the state meet but also swept first and second place at both flights in winning the York Sectional Friday and Saturday based at Berens Park.York scored a perfect 36 points for its fifth consecutive sectional team championship. In 2010, York junior boys golfer Joe Wark missed an individual berth to sectionals by losing a one-hole playoff for the last advancing spot. Wark not only reached sectionals this season, but he also qualified for the state meet for the first time with shots to spare. Wark’s 3-over-par 74 earned a berth to the Class 3A state meet via the Bartlett Sectional Monday (Oct. 10) at Bartlett Hills Golf Course by being among the top 10 individuals who were not members of the three qualifying teams. The York varsity football team is just one game away from clinching a state playoff berth after remaining undefeated in the West Suburban Conference Silver Division last week at Downers Grove North.The Dukes (5-1), are home today, Friday, Oct. 7, against Lyons Township High School (3-3, 2-2 in Silver).
