York Takes on Proviso West for Homecoming Tonight

Dukes hoping to bring home their first win of the season in front of the Homecoming crowd.

York High School students will enjoy slightly shorter class periods today, Friday, Sept. 21, due to the Homecoming Pep Rally scheduled for 2:10 p.m.

The Dukes will need the enthusiasm to carry over onto the football field, as they have yet to see a victory going into the fifth game of the season.

York will take on West Suburban Silver Conference rival Proviso West for its Homecoming matchup at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Clarence D. East Field, corner of St. Charles and Spring Road.

The Dukes (0-4, 0-1 in conference) and coach Steve Nye have their work cut out for them against the Panthers, who are 3-1 for the season. Proviso lost its only conference game against Hinsdale Central Sept. 7 by a score of 25-34.

Proviso shut out its opponents in all three of its wins this season, scoring 40-0 against Hubbard Aug. 25, 25-0 against Addison Trail Aug. 31, and 50-0 against Proviso East Sept. 14.

The Dukes came closest to a win last weekend, Sept. 14, against Oak Park. At one point in the third quarter, the game was tied 41-41, but the Huskies pulled away with two touchdowns to end it with a score of 55-41. Other Duke losses this year came against Willowbrook (23-28) Sept. 7, Hinsdale South (21-49) Aug. 31, and Rolling Meadows (0-42) Aug. 24.

Check back with Elmhurst Patch Friday night and Saturday morning for all the IHSA football scores.
