Woman Struck by Car in South Elmhurst Dies

Elmhurst police continue to investigate the accident, which happened in front of Jewel-Osco Saturday.

UPDATE Tuesday, May 14: Visitation for Mrs. Morales will be held Wednesday, May 15, and funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 16, in Elmhurst.

Original story: The woman who was hit by a car at York and Van Buren Saturday afternoon has died, Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth announced on Sunday.

The victim is identified as Ophelia Morales, 85, of 929 Cambridge in Elmhurst.   Nicholas Morales, 23, of the same address, also was struck by the vehicle, which was traveling southbound on York, but he escaped with minor injuries, Ruth said.

Both Ophelia and Nicholas were transported by ambulance to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Ruth said. Nicholas was treated and released. Ophelia was transferred from Elmhurst to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, where she succumbed to her injuries at 8:35 p.m., he said.

The investigation into the details of this collision continue under the direction of the Elmhurst Police Department, with the assistance of the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Task Force, Ruth said.

No charges are pending at this time.
