Elmhurst Turkey Trot Breaks Record for Number of Participants; Here are the Winners

Another Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot is in the history books, and another record was broken. On Thursday, Nov. 22, more than 8,250 colorful participants—about 750 more than last year—ran and walked the 5-K. The course traveled from York and South streets, up York Road, around Elmhurst College and back to York and South.
Runners crossed the finish line before the rain started, capping a near-perfect Thanksgiving morning. The top runner in both the male and female categories are Elmhurst residents.

The amount of money raised by the 29th annual Turkey Trot was not immediately available, but proceeds will go to a number of local charities.
The winners of a photo contest on the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot Facebook page will be announced Tuesday, Nov. 27. The three categories are best child photo, best group/family photo and best costume photo. Winners in each category will receive two free entries to the 2013 Turkey Trot.
Organizers also have posted hundreds of photos available for purchase at the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot website.

Great event but needs to be organized better due to its size. I saw a lot of people without numbers who may or may not have paid. Also, it's time to spend the money and get timing chips.....any real race has them.

Rich - that's the point. The Trot is not a "real race". Until recently, it wasn't even a true 5K, it was just short of 5K. It is a neighborhood race where the main purpose is to raise money for local charities. It grows in size every year because it is a fun event that draws famalies, often generations, on Thanksgiving. Any race that features people walking the whole distance dragging coolers full of liquids that require red Solo cups is not a real race. The organization of the race is just fine. The die hard runners have enough "real races", leave this one be for what it is.
