We'll Miss You, 2011: Here Are the Most-read Stories of the Year
It wasn't all good news, but it wasn't all bad, either.
As 2011 comes to a close, we're taking a look back on the stories that really got people talking.
With so many interesting stories throughout the year, like the huge rain and snow storms, and lots of great business stories, we decided the best way to put this particular list together was to compile the 10 stories that got the most readers—pure and simple. (We'll also be putting together a list of some of the funniest Elmhurst police blotter items, some of the best photos of 2011 and some of the best "good news" stories, so stay tuned.)
Not surprisingly, many of these stories were about crime. But readers also were interested in the District 205 teachers' contract, York Principal Diana Smith and Lady Gaga.
Without further ado, let's count them down, David Letterman-style:
10. Sept. 15: Elmhurst Attorney Accused of Stealing More than $100,000
9. Sept. 22: Teacher Representative Releases Statement on ETCS Rejection of Tentative Contract
8. Dec. 1: Burglaries Have Elmhurst Residents Concerned
7. Feb. 23: Diana Smith Will Keep Her Position as York High School Principal
6. Sept. 24: Naperville Dentist Accused in Crash That Killed Elmhurst Residents has Died
5. Aug. 7: Two Elmhurst Residents Killed in Tollway Crash
4. Sept. 22: Elmhurst Teachers Union 'Overwhelmingly' Rejects Tentative Contract
3.June 13: Elmhurst Mother Charged with Attempted Murder of 7-year-old Son
2. Aug. 29: Lady Gaga Gives Elmhurst Resident His 15 Minutes
And, the No. 1 story for 2011 is ...
March 21: Man with Knife Taken Down at Spring Inn
We've thoroughly enjoyed bringing you these and many other stories and look forward to continuing that mission throughout 2012.
Happy New Year, Elmhurst!
