Vehicle Crashes Into Bank During Rush Hour Friday

Information has not yet been released on the cause of the crash.

Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth has released information about a vehicle that crashed into the Wells Fargo Bank at 333 S. Route 83, at the corner of St. Charles Road and Route 83, during the height of rush-hour traffic Friday.

The accident was reported at 4:45 p.m. The car reportedly drove into the front window of the bank, causing "a bit of attention from local residents, bank customers and rush-hour (drivers)," Ruth said.

He said the bank was open and people were inside, but no injuries were reported. The driver also was uninjured.

Elmhurst Fire Department officials have determined the building is structurally sound. Officials were still on the scene and the vehicle was being removed from the building as of 5:30 p.m.

Police have not yet released information about the driver and have not said whether any charges will be filed.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
