Top of the Blotter: Taxi Driver Snatches Purse, Group Grabs iPhone
Reports from the Elmhurst Police Department.
Police are looking for a cab driver who reportedly robbed a woman he picked up around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
The woman and another person hailed the cab near Ontario and Franklin. After agreeing to a $60 fare for the ride, the driver turned the corner toward the area of Oaklawn and Gladys where he reportedly demanded more money, police said.
The woman gave the driver $70 and exited the cab with the other person. As they began to walk away, the driver ran up behind the pair, grabbed the woman’s purse and fled the area, police reported. The purse contained a leather Coach wallet with cash, credit cards and an iPhone, as well as the woman’s identification.
Police did not have information as to driver’s cab company, taxi number or license plate.
