Tires Punctured on Dozens of Vehicles in Elmhurst
Damage occurred sometime during a two-week period, police said.
Clarification: A police report initially listed the address of Jim's Towing in conjunction with the vandalism, but on followup it was learned the lot is owned by the city of Elmhurst and is adjacent to Jim's Towing.
Dozens of police-impounded vehicles were found with their tires slashed Monday.
The damage occurred while the vehicles were parked in a city of Elmhurst-owned impound lot on the 500 block of South Route 83 between noon Nov. 12 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 26, police said.
The vehicles, more than 30 in all, had been impounded following arrests and were being held for possible forfeiture by Elmhurst police. The tires all had small punctures in the sidewalls, possibly made by an ice pick, police said.

Someone, whose car was towed for forfeiture is getting even by reducing the value of these cars. I am not always a fan of this law.
Civil forfeiture laws represent one of the most serious assaults on private property rights in the nation today. Under civil forfeiture, police and prosecutors can seize your car or other property, sell it and use the proceeds to fund agency budgets--all without so much as charging you with a crime. Unlike criminal forfeiture, where property is taken after its owner has been found guilty in a court of law, with civil forfeiture, owners need not be charged with a crime let alone be convicted to lose homes, cars, cash or other property.
Americans are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but civil forfeiture turns that principle on its head. With civil forfeiture, your property is guilty until you prove it innocent. Civil forfeiture--where the police may seize property upon the mere suspicion that it may have some connection to criminal activity--threatens the property rights of all Americans. The overriding goal of police and prosecutors should be the fair and impartial administration of justice.

sorry boys - you are both wrong . cars( boats, aircraft, semi's etc. ) - any motor vehicle can be impounded and or seized only after there is just cause after an arrest for a crime is committed. a drug dealer uses his car to haul illegal drugs from one state to another - or from one town to another- gets caught & he will lose his ride. a drunk uses his car to drive from one party to another, gets caught and now is car is impounded- after a fee he gets it back- unless it's his 3rd offense- then the car be seized & he loses his car. rightly so !!! over 13,000 people die each year from drunks. after coming home from viet nam the count was about 57,000 people ! the law is doing a great job !!!!
