I disagree with Dave that "there was no harm done". I believe they ought to throw the moron who left it there in jail and send him or her a bill for the cost of the police mobilization. The jail term can be determined based on the inconvenience to the Metra riders, which was likely significant based on my experience with prior "police action" Metra delays. For each Metra rider that was delayed getting to their destination by more than 30 minutes, he (she) should spend one hour in jail. That is justice. Yes, even stupidity should have a price.

Scott - find a better place to express such overreactionary views, probably some vagrant or homeless person got tired of lugging some overweight suitcase and left it there.
