Suspicious Suitcase Stops Train Traffic in Elmhurst

DuPage County Bomb Squad called to the scene.

The Elmhurst Police Department received a report of a suspicious package at the Elmhurst Metra Station, 128 W. First St., at 11:19 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Responding officers located a suitcase near the station, and rail and pedestrian traffic was stopped until the DuPage County Bomb Squad could examine the package.

The bomb squad determined the suitcase did not pose a hazard and railroad traffic resumed at 1:30 p.m.

"If you see something, say something"......glad someone spoke up, and glad there was no harm done.

I disagree with Dave that "there was no harm done". I believe they ought to throw the moron who left it there in jail and send him or her a bill for the cost of the police mobilization. The jail term can be determined based on the inconvenience to the Metra riders, which was likely significant based on my experience with prior "police action" Metra delays. For each Metra rider that was delayed getting to their destination by more than 30 minutes, he (she) should spend one hour in jail. That is justice. Yes, even stupidity should have a price.

Thanks for the feedback, Scott. I figured that most people would understand what I meant: that no one was harmed, physically. I'll watch the way I word my comment next time.

Dave - understood. And being that we are coming up on the holiday season, I'll soften my view and suggest 30 minutes of community service for each rider delayed by 30 minutes. :)

Scott - find a better place to express such overreactionary views, probably some vagrant or homeless person got tired of lugging some overweight suitcase and left it there. Jail time etc. , some idiot decided to use the Elm. train station as a dumping ground for garbage instead of buying a $2 refuse sticker, what a moran though.

Give me a break !

FatherLand Security, a BAD IDEA of the RepubliKlan Ruling Class formerly led by Dick Cheney, has gotten everyone all pumped up - seeing terrorists behind every DuPage County bush. It was an idea of how to take away civil liberties one by one from a sleeping citizenry - and it almost worked.

Over-reacting citizens, instead of paying attention to the needs of the homeless that migrate between the Library and the Train Station during inclement weather, all of a sudden care about the flotsam that is left behind when they leave. How 'family values' of you RepubliTards.

Incidentally, Mike - in Catholic school, we spelled your family name "m-o-r-o-n."

Hey Jack - real nice comment, thank you. It shows your lack of class but it is indeed a free country.
