Suspicious Characters Knock on a Door, Run From Police in the Wee Hours Tuesday

Also, a suspicious bag dumped in Suburban Bank parking lot, more arrests for DUI, man found face-down in the street, and a false alarm on Babcock.

Suspicious Circumstances

A resident of the 600 block of South Cedar told police that someone was knocking on his front door at 4:49 a.m. Jan. 8. The victim didn't see anyone when he looked out his window. But when police arrived, an officer saw two male subjects walking in the area, and they ran after seeing the officer. Police set up a perimeter, but the subjects were not located.

Surveillance footage at Suburban Bank and Trust, 400 W. Lake St., revealed a gray Buick four-door parked in a parking space for about 25 minutes with an occupant inside. A person in the vehicle discarded a black Swiss Gear book bag before driving away at 10:23 a.m. Jan. 8. Inside the bag was a bottle of water, a black ski mask and a drivers license. A used syringe and wrapper for alcohol wipes was found near the bag. Police investigated the drivers license information, which revealed several arrests for robbery, burglary, dangerous drugs and other offenses. An arrest had not been made as of the time of the police report.

Maggie R. Micek, 26, 45 Yorkshire Woods, Oak Brook, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled over her silver Ford Taurus at York and Cayuga at 1:52 a.m. Jan. 6. She was released on bond.

Andrew J. Caron, 21, 513 E. Park Ave., was arrested and charged with DUI after his blue Volvo S60 crashed into a tree at Park Avenue and Huntington Lane at 4:18 a.m. Jan. 6. Police said Caron fled the scene on foot and was found moments later at home.

Possession of Cannabis

Patrick J. Harty, 46, 201 E. Fremont, Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and public intoxication after police said he fell off his bicycle at York and Hahn at 4:36 p.m. Jan. 5. Police were flagged down by several witnesses who allegedly saw Harty lying "face down" in the street. He was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Michael R. Yarbrough, 34, 470 St. Moritz Drive Apt. 2B, Glen Ellyn, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police pulled over his black Pontiac Grand Am for no valid registration at Roosevelt Road and Route 83 at 1:45 a.m. Jan. 5. He was released on bond.

Disorderly Conduct

Dustin M. Bruce, 23, 566 Babcock Ave., Elmhurst, was arrested and charged with filing a false police report after he allegedly told police he heard a car alarm going off and saw someone running from a vehicle on the 600 block of North Oaklawn at 1:59 a.m. Jan. 7. The report was determined to be false, police said. He was released on bond.
