Paul Ryan is Mitt Romney's VP Pick [POLL]
Romney touts Ryan's Wisconsin values; says he is an "intellectual leader of the Republican Party."
Written by Jeff Rumage
Mitt Romney announced Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) as his vice presidential running mate Saturday morning.
Ryan, 42, has served in the House of Representatives for 14 years, currently chairing the House Budget Committee and serving on the House Ways and Means Committee. In January 2010, Ryan gained attention nationwide after unveiling his “Roadmap for America’s Future.”
Romney formally made his VP announcement on a tour of the U.S.S. Wisconsin in Norfolk, VA. In the announcement, Romney said Ryan is an "intellectual leader of the Republican Party."
Romney also said Paul understands that people can have honest disagreements without making personal attacks.
"There are a lot of people in the other party who might disagree with Paul Ryan, but I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t respect his character and judgment," Romney said.
Touting Ryan's Wisconsin values, Romney said Ryan "combines firm principles with practical concerns for getting things done."
"He's shown the ability to work with members of both parties to find common ground to on issues concerning American people," Romney said.
Ryan said he is excited to join Romney's campaign, saying the former Massachusetts governor has the "the skills, the background and the character that our country needs at a crucial time in its history."
"Following four years of failed leadership, the hopes of our country, which have inspired the world, are growing dim; and they need someone to revive them," Ryan said. "Governor Romney is the man for this moment; and he and I share one commitment: we will restore the dreams and greatness of this country."
In his speech, Ryan says he has toured his congressional district and talked with voters who think the economic recession is "the new normal."
"High unemployment, declining incomes and crushing debt is not a new normal. It's the result of misguided policies," Ryan said. "And next January, our economy will begin a comeback with the Romney Plan for a Stronger Middle Class that will lead to more jobs and more take home pay for working Americans."
The crowd at the gathering had a warm reception to Ryan, chanting "USA" when Ryan said, "Our rights come from nature and God—not from government."
Romney's pick is seen by national politicos as a risky pick compared to former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty and Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, the other two potential candidates on his VP short list.
Gov. Scott Walker said in a news release that Romney's "bold and reform-minded selection" was a good one.
“This election has to be about who is going to look out for the next generation. America needs a comeback team to turn around the economy and to turn around the fiscal status of our country," Walker said. "Romney and Ryan have the ideas and the experience needed to take on these core issues. This is a great day for Wisconsin and an even greater day for America.”

Ryan was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on January 29, 1970. A fifth-generation Wisconsin native, Ryan was the youngest of four children born to Paul Ryan Sr., who worked as an attorney, and Betty, a stay-at-home mom. His father passed away when he was a boy.
In April 2000, Ryan proposed to Janna Little, a native Oklahoman, at one of his favorite fishing spots, Big St. Germain Lake in Wisconsin. Later that year, the two were married in Oklahoma City.
The Ryans reside in Janesville with their three children, Liza, Charlie and Sam. The family are parishioners at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, according to the release.
Upon entering Congress in January of 1999, Ryan was the youngest member of the freshmen class at the age of 28. Prior to running for Congress, Ryan served as an aide to Republican Senators Robert Kasten Jr. and Sam Brownback, former U.S. Rep. and Vice Presidential Candidate Jack Kemp, and as a speechwriter for Education Secretary William Bennett, according to the release.
Ryan is a graduate of Joseph A. Craig High School in Janesville and earned degrees in economics and political science from Miami University in Ohio. He is an avid outdoorsman and is a member is of his local archery association, the Janesville Bowmen, according to the release.

Thanks Mitt. We appreciate you picking an off the rails crazy. Any smart Medicare recipient and anyone who believes in birth control will either stay home or vote for Obama! Happy Belated Birthday Barack!

How does one believe in birth control exactly? I think some people may consider it a right or an individuals personal choice but to "believe" in it is a skewed view. I have often wondered if the majority of Obama supporters looked at the world this way, your comment gives more reason to ponder.

You use the word "crazy" in an effort to demonize Paul Ryan. Obviously you don't know who he is. You also must not understand the current President is leading Medicare and Medicaid off the cliff of no return. Oh, one more thing Becki stopping the heart of a person isn't birth control even if the person isn't born yet. So very sorry for you being on the loosing end of life.

And if Romney/Ryan are elected, maybe we will hear the truth the next four years instead of the blatant "lie machine" that the Obama administration has made a living off of.
I am hoping that the voters who felt cheated by the
"promise of change" will reconsider voting for four more years of the same. Obama fooled me with that speech of his back in 2004 at Democratic Convention, and it has left a bad taste in my mouth once his true colors were shown. I cannot stand to hear the sound of the man's voice anymore. It really is time for a change.

For one to "believe" in birth control they have used, considered, or understand that others may use it.

Your statement isn't clear that you understand the true issue. Birth control as a contraceptive is legal and few (almost no one) dispute the right to go to the drug store and buy a condom. Making me pay however isn't a democratic policy, it's a socialists' policy. The only way a socialist society can work is for the common man to go numb, as I see you have.

What the does "Birth Control as a contraceptive" mean?? Aren't they one in the same....preventing conception?
Having a vasectomy is legal, too and also prevents conception. The last time I checked is was still a covered procedure and we still "pay". Wonder why we have to pay for that "right" but, there is an issue with paying for prescription birth control?
I am not sure what birth control in general has to do with socialism. Could you explain? You haven't been forced to use it, have you?
BTW If we don't live on the same street, why do I have to pay for yours? Isn't that rather socialistic?

No joke,
How would you know if I were on the loosing end of life? Have you ever held the hand of a dying mother of six children who was told having this baby would kill her but had it anyway because of her church? Have you ever personally used every contraceptive available and become pregnant knowing you could not even afford prenatal care but made too much money to qualify for Medicaid? Have you ever bled for months at a time and been told that you couldn't get an ablation because it prevented pregnancy and it was against someone's religion? I highly doubt it. Until you have been there to see it or been through it you have no idea. I do. I am pro life, meaning I realize that there are two lives involved, Mom and baby. I also think if you want to tell someone what to do with their bodies you should help them with raising the child. Love the fetus hate the child doesn't work. But that wasn't even what Paul Ryan sponsored so your comment proves you are ignorant of the issue.
As for paying for things you don't agree with, what about military spending, SBA loans, federal grants, etc? If I have never called the police but you have why should I pay taxes for it. Or the fire department. You probably think that is crazy or different somehow. It isn't. We pay for a lot of things because we are blessed to live in this country. Part of that is accepting that you have to pay for things, even if you don't agree with them.

Becki Benson you have the right to share your point of view. How ever I also have the same right and I do not agree with any thing you said. Nobody has attcked faith of any kind in these post BUT YOU. I work in the medical field I have have seen mother's pick giving life to a child at the cost of her own that had NOTHING to do with church. ( Hard for a left wing radical to understand, but some people don't think about only me, myself, and I ) The Fed Government job IS to protect the people= Military. So lets stop all military spending and see how long it take the Chinese or othe country to invade us. Time to come back to reality. Give us Names, Dates, & Locations of ALL the people, and places that have told you what to do with your body. ( I'm calling you out of this because I see you as a liar) If somebody did tell you what to do with your body it doesn't mean you had to do it. So I gladly pay to support the police and military. They keep me & my family SAFE. I do not hold that on the same level as being made to pay for birth control. ( I got a good laugh out of that) If you are old enough to have sex, you ARE old enough to responsibility for your own bith control, baby, or any STD you might get.

My example was exactly that. An example of WHY she said that. You can't have it both ways. You do not get to pick and chooose what you pag for based on belief. Protecting the common good encompasses many thing.

Did and pay. Auto correct... Many of you try to insult my left leaning and my being a Liberal. Go right ahead. We don't live in a bubble. At least I can say I am looking out for all of our best interests. I won't stereotype like many of you and say right wing extremists are self-centered "ME" mongers but I will say that Ryan and Romney care nothing for our country's working class and only for their corporate interests. Ryan's extreme budget showed that. Romney has shown he will do anything to get elected except care about the middle class.

Excellent choice!!! Ryan is a common sense, no nonsense guy. After four years of Obama's clueless incompetence, It would great to have Romney and Ryan in the driver's seat.
