Police Say Chicago Man Tried to Drive Through the Pedestrian Underpass at Jefferson School
No injuries were reported.
Police arrested a man they say attempted to drive his car through the pedestrian walkway that travels under the Canadian National Railroad tracks at Poplar and Cayuga avenues.
Ruben Figueroa, 24, 11049 S. Avenue E, Chicago, was taken into custody after police in the area heard a loud crash at 2:12 a.m. Saturday near Jefferson School. Police saw Figueroa's vehicle, a black Nissan Maxima, driving near Madison and Poplar with extensive body damage.
Figueroa was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on bond and his vehicle towed. There was no report of injury.
