Patch Roundup: Massive Damage from House Fire, Wildlife Center Saves Baby Owls

Also this week: a student battling a graft-vs.-host disease, an accused sexual assault in Lisle and the resignation of a man who has cut a town's meat for 40 years.

Check out that photo to the right. That is a gorgeous house. It should definitely not be on fire. Unfortunately, it is (or was at the time), and the result is going to be a staggering cost in damages. There's a nice little substory buried in there, though, as a minor hero of a neighbor smashed a window to allow two trapped dogs to escape. Go, hero neighbor!

And go wildlife center in the Batavia area, also animal-rescuers of the hour, for saving a pair of owlets, and actually placing them right back in their nest with mommy. Between that and the hawk in Western Springs, it's been a pretty good couple of weeks for bird rescues in our west-suburban roundup.
