Pair Charged With November Armed Robbery; Hearing Set for Next Month

Suspects held on charges they used gun to take man's phone, other items.

A pair of Franklin Park men have been charged with armed robbery in connection to a Nov. 30 hold up on York Road.

Christopher Accardo, 25, and Diego Garcia, 20, both of the 2500 block of Manheim Road, each face multiple armed robbery charges related to the Elmhurst case, as well as a similar incident that occurred earlier the same day in Wood Dale, court records show.

Both have already been indicted in the Wood Dale cases and have hearing dates set for next month on all charges. Accardo is in DuPage County Jail on $300,000 bail, while Garcia is being held on $1 million bail in Cook County Jail on an unrelated attempted murder charge, officials said. He also has a $750,000 bail for the DuPage case.

Prosecutors allege Accardo and Garcia used a gun to threaten a man on York Road before taking his cell phone, keys and ATM card, according to court documents. Earlier, they used a knife to take similar items from a man walking along Irving Park Road in Wood Dale.

Elmhurst and Wood Dale police worked together on the investigation, which was bolstered by descriptions of the suspects and the car they used to leave the scene of one robbery.

On Dec. 8, Wood Dale police learned Garcia had been arrested in connection to a shooting in Oak Park. That arrest and related evidence led investigators to connect Garcia and Accardo to the DuPage County robberies, Wood Dale police said in a statement.
