Police Nab Pair Suspected in Several Elmhurst Burglaries

Police from multiple agencies worked together to track the suspects.

An ongoing investigation by police from multiple jurisdictions has led to the arrest of two people suspected in a recent series of burglaries on the north side of Elmhurst.

Elmhurst detectives, along with investigators from six other agencies, followed the suspects for several days. At 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, they witnessed the two burglarize a home in Itasca, newly hired Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth said. The offenders were taken into custody at the scene, and they were in possession of stolen property, he said.

Arrested and charged with residential burglary were Jeffrey Roman, 24, and Jessica Jakaitis, 26, both of Addison.

The offenders were followed by police as they traveled through nine towns in the western suburbs looking for homes to target, Ruth said. They allegedly acted as a team, with Jakaitis knocking on the front doors of homes. If someone answered, she allegedly would ask for directions. If no one answered, Roman allegedly would attempt to force open a door in the back of the home.

Elmhurst detectives are reviewing forensic evidence to determine if these offenders are responsible for other residential burglaries in the area. Both suspects are being held in DuPage County Jail.

Nice job indeed. Put them away and throw away the key. These 2 are a menace to society.
I am sorry for the people who fell victim to these burglaries. Time and time again, I still see that "they" are gaining access through an open window. Wake up people!

Tell the new Chief that it was a great job by the Elmhurst police. I am glad that they are off the street. I bet these two are responsible for many other crimes.

I hope The Patch will follow this case to the end. These idiots should get some serious jail time for this kind of crime. They should not be given probation by some lenient left wing judge. We all need to keep an eye on this one to make sure that justice is carried out.

What idiots this pair is. Do they really think that just because someone doesn't answer their door to a stranger means no one is home? Idiots anyway. Glad no residents got hurt if people did end up being home and confronted them.

One day one of these losers will encounter an armed resident, and it won't be a pretty sight. The Elmhurst police better get a handle on this problem before some gets killed.
