New Allied Waste and Recycling Totes Will Be Delivered Beginning This Week

Every home in Elmhurst will get a new recycling toter.

Beginning this week, Elmhurst's refuse and recycling hauler, Allied Waste, will start delivering new garbage and recycling carts to Elmhurst homes. Residents using 33-gallon garbage cans will get a 65-gallon garbage toter, residents using 95-gallon toters who want to continue using them will keep their existing toter, and every Elmhurst household will receive a 65-gallon recycling cart at no additional cost.

Residents may keep their old, blue recycling bins or bring them to one of three drop-off facilities:

These locations will be available from March 15-April 15.

Signs at each location will direct residents to a large dumpster where they can place the old bins. These dumpsters are for blue recycling bins only.

Garbage cans can be disposed of by marking “Please Take” on them, and placing them at the curb on garbage day. Old recycling bins will not be picked up by Allied Waste at curbside.

More information about the city’s new garbage program can be found here.

Recycling bins and cans collected at the above locations will be reused or repurposed by local organizations. All other bins will be sent to Allied Waste for recycling. Any organization in need of bins should contact Elmhurst Cool Cities at 630/426-9789.

So now I have to pay an extra amount just to use these cans? Is the cost of the waste service going down to supplement this being it's easier for "them"?
