Letter: Pro-business Nybo Makes Sense for Illinois

Nybo is willing to face pension reform head-on.

After the redistricting maps finally came out, it was very confusing for a time. Once I realized that Glen Ellyn had the opportunity to be represented by Chris Nybo in the State Senate, I was thrilled and able to get to work for good government! My company is based in Oak Brook, where Mr. Nybo currently serves as State Representative. I've had many opportunities to meet with him and see him at work in the community.

What I appreciate most is his logical approach and candid discussion on pension reform. The fact he is willing to meet this issue head-on is something that impresses me greatly. As a businessman, I know that this crisis could have and should have been dealt with long ago by the legislature. The fact they continued to delay any serious solution is an affront to the future generations who will be saddled with that debt.

We need courage and honesty now. We need Chris Nybo and I'm very pleased to have an opportunity for him to represent my home and my business. I encourage everyone in our community to support Chris Nybo to serve as our State Senator.

Nybo DID NOT receive the endorsement of the Chicagoland and Illinois Chamber of Commerce... Dillard did.

While Nybo has nothing but rhetoric and talking points, Dillard has a fully developed plan to make Illinois a Destination Economy for job creators, large and small. You can find these plans on his web site, www.kdillard.com.

Dillard is a career politician, lets get some new blood down in Springfield. Who gives a rats ass about the endorsement of the IL Chamber of Commerce. If you look hard enough, my guess is Dillard made some hefty contributions to the Chamber.

MIKE,

If you look carefully at Nybo's record, he has been in office in various positions (none of which he completes) since he left law school. That sounds pretty careerish to me! Nybo is nothing other than a career opportunist, who only cares about himself.

The unfortunate truth is that Mr. Nybo does not play well with others. My fear is if we elect him nothing will get done. Running over people is a short sited strategy. It may work in the short run. But eventually it catches up to you and you find yourself alone. We the residents of the 24th district cannot afford to be represented by Mr. Nybo at this time. We need representation that can bring people together to solve problems not repel them. In my humble opionon Mr. Nybo currently lacks the emotional intelligence necessary to get the job done. The best thing we can do for this young man is to defeat him soundly, let him take stock of himself, and hopefully time and introspection will take care of the immaturity. Then some time down the road take another look at him and if his issues have been resolved give him another chance. He does have potential but he is not ready for prime time. Stay with Dillard he gets things done.

I have to disagree with you. I know Chris Nybo quite well and I have never seen any indication that he does not "play well with others." Quite the contrary, he is an outgoing, engaging individual who is very much interested in other people's views. But beyond that, I for one want a State Senator like Chris Nybo whose top priority is to speak plainly, represent his district well, and strive to get this State out of its dismal economic condition. We are not going to get out of this mess by having a group of legislators who play nice in the sandbox. That is the mindset that has gotten us into this mess. This State is hanging on by a thread, and we need to shift gears and elect people like Chris Nybo who are keenly aware of the gravity of the situation and are determined to change course.

Rick, With all due respect the state has gone from a surplus (which Dillard takes lots of credit for before serving in the senate) to over $100 Billion in debt during his 20 years in the Senate. While your unsolicited emotional assessment on his maturity strikes me odd, I'll share with you that he's a highly respected attorney at a highly respected firm, a husband, a father of 3 and the legislator who got several bills signed into law in his first term. Mr. Dillard ran for Gov two years ago and hasn't ruled it out for 6 months from now again to start running. He's been running for Governor on the public dole already and wants to do it again. I'd like a full time senator sir. Mr. Dillard has been defeated for leadership in the Senate twice, once by Watson, once by Radogno. Only Mike Madigan and John Cullerton have been in Springfield longer. Their colleagues did make them leaders. Term limits time has come. Chris Nybo is more than ready for prime time. I'd say the sandbox you're referring to needs to be cleaned out. A few too many fat cats have been filling it up with undesirable matter.

To Rick - the incompetents in Springfiedl just raised my tax bill 2% last yr. and that was not needed. If we would have reduced state spending and had pension reform & tried to balance the budget, we might have been in better shape. Let's give Chris Nybo a chance, we need some fresh views on spending and fiscal restraint......

Chris Nybo, a citizen politician who is staunchly in support of term limits in the Illinois Legislature, is the choice of people I have talked to who are fed up with career-politicans not doing the work of the people. Mr. Dillard, a career politician, has had his chance for the last 20 years (longer if you count his aide work in Springfield) and has proven to be a contributor to the deficit problem rather than an effective part of the solution.

Let's start to get serious about our politicians in Illinois, lifetime, do nothing beaurocrats, who have put our state in dire straights.....the time for change is here, term limits, pols with a desire to solve problems rather than create them, that's a refreshing change

I do have to concur with Rick and the Chicago Tribune on this one. Having witnessed some of the outbursts myself when he was an alderman in Elmhurst it is not the type of stuff you want in a State Senator. Just too much over the top behavior. It’s the maturity thing that disqualifies him in my eyes. Who is going to listen to you when you are ripping everybody up and down all the time? Too much negative, negative, negative. He is in serious need of a Dale Carnegie class. Maybe he should start with the book. “How to win friends and Influence people” Look how much Dillard has been able to bring to the area even with the Democrats in charge. You got to know how to work with people. There is an old adage this young man needs to take heed of.
“You can get a whole lot more with a drop of honey than a pound of poison”
You got to go with Dillard folks this guy is just to risky.

I agree Roger, Dillard has shown us what it is all about. "Look how much Dillard has been able to bring to the area even with the Democrats in charge."

You are correct Roger. Dillard helped the Democrats get in charge. Dillard was THE Republicrat who worked the hardest to get Obama elected President: http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2009/06/dillards-controversial-obama-ad.html

However, as this is the REPUBLICAN Primary, I will be casting my vote for a REPUBLICAN. But thanks all the same!

I have been following this exchange and find it most reveling that the Nybo supporter’s responses always try to deflect the maturity issue and change the subject. It surely looks like they are trying to hide something. I just read the Tribune endorsement of Dillard and it does in fact describe some behavior you don’t want to see in a State Senator. I am just not sure that this young gent is our best option. Things are just not adding up for me. It looks like he is trying to go to fast. He just appears to be little to shrill for me. I got some time before Election Day but I think I am going for Dillard. I know he works with people well.

I agree with you Roger, he works very well with others. I just don't care for who he works so hard for:

http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2009/06/dillards-controversial-obama-ad.html

I just don't quite understand Roger, why you keep changing the subject and won't acknowledge that you like, support and are casting your vote for a so-called Republican who worked the hardest to get Obama elected President. Are you trying to hide something Roger?

According to Crains Dillard has received just under $400,000 from special interest groups since the beginning of the year. A who's who of contributions from the Illinois Election Commission website will either make your head spin or make you vomit a little in your mouth: http://www.elections.il.gov/CampaignDisclosure/CommitteeDetail.aspx?id=9857

Dillard is a Senator for Sale to sooooo many special interest groups he stopped caring for his constituents before he even started,

Which special interest are you? Come on, it will be our little secret. I won't tell anyone...
