1. ART EXHIBIT
Where/When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Elmhurst Artists' Guild Gallery, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave.
Why Go: Nine fine arts instructors from the Mainstreet Art Centre will showcase their works in a new art exhibition hosted by the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild through Oct. 21.
Cost: Free.
2. SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM DAY
Where/When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 S. Cottage Hill Ave.
Why Go: As a Smithsonian affiliate the Lizzadro Museum will feature a special piece from the Smithsonian Gem Collection. Children and adults can participate in a "stone hunt," an activity to search for rocks and minerals to take home.
Cost: Free to members and those with a Museum Day ticket.
3. MUSIC FOR SUDAN ORGAN RECITAL
Where/When: 6 p.m. Saturday at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 116 E. Church St.
Why Go: The organ recital will feature Matthew Hogan, the organist and handbell director at St. Peter’s UCC, Elmhurst. The evening is planned to raise awareness and money for St. Mark's Church, in Jelhak, Sudan, a companion parish with the Church of Our Saviour.
Cost: Free-will offering.
4. COMEDYCOMEDY
Where/When: 8 p.m. Saturday at Fitz's Spare Keys, 119 N. York St.
Why Go: Chicago's Tim Walkoe, past winner of ABC-TV’s Funniest Person in America, performs, with special guest impressionist Bob Jay. Dueling pianos follow the show.
Cost: $25.
5. CHURCHVILLE SCHOOLHOUSE OPEN HOUSE
Where/When: 1 p.m. Sunday at 3N784 Church Rd., Bensenville.
Why Go: The doors to the Churchville Schoolhouse, a National Register of Historic Places property, will be open for an afternoon of music and history presented by the Elmhurst Historical Museum and the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation as part of the 150th anniversary of the commencement of the Civil War. The afternoon will feature musical performances by local schoolchildren and an opportunity to tour the restored Churchville Schoolhouse, which was built circa 1846.
Cost: Free.
