Hi Gina- maybe it is just me, but you might want to remember these are high schoolers you are talking about, not professionals.

Sure, you can have a good HS progam, just feel that the sarcasm is a little much. If you have a beef with the coaching, etc-maybe state that. As the parent of HS athletes, I can tell you that any member of the York team that sees (or hears about) statements like the above, will take it personally. Obviously, this is just my opinion, but I think people lose sight of the fact that this is HS and not the pros (or even college). Certainly people can say what they like, but I just thought that maybe we might want to think about the fact that these are teenagers being written about.

Was a post deleted? I see posts of opinions, none of which are offensive or can hurt a teenagers feelings. After years of dads coaching teams, high schoolers not only deserve good sports, but they crave it. If York isn't performing, don't take it out on the teams that are!

York lost two weeks in a row. Rolling Meadows scored 49 against York and Hinsdale South scored 42 against York last night. The comments from Gino about "great defense" and "great program" were purely sarcastic and Kelly was calling him out for ripping teenagers who are doing their best. I agree with Kelly. Sarcasm and snarky comments don't add anything to the conversation. (I also am a parent of a former YHS varsity athlete.)

I really think Gino should go watch a special olympics competition. It will definitely enlighten him, even if he thinks it would be "funny" to him to see kids in last place still smiling. I, for one, LOVE all high school sports. It is great to see the younger people learning to perform at a higher level to get ready to possibly go on to play in college. Thank you Kelly for calling this person out! More people should stand up to party poopers like "Gino"!

Our football team is soft! Maybe we need to stop sheltering them before they all get hurt!

I have a idea re: York varsity fb; maybe the school board could hire geno and Cronan to be the defensive coordinators at York; I am sure these two football geniues could have the Defense play like the 85 bears.

@Floyd,
If their comments are a sign of their intelligence, with them as defensive coordinators, York would probably allow 42 to 49 points a quarter.

@Tired of the B. S. - My comment says nothing about my intelligence although yours is very telling. Maybe everyone should back off and let the coaches be coaches and the athletes play the game. It's football! It's rough and angry and mean. How are they suppose to get better if nobody wants to tell them the truth? These are not 10 yr olds we are dealing with, they are young men. Treat them like it.

Cronan,
Your comment speaks directly to your intelligence, or lack of.
You and Gino come to a public forum to make fun of HIGH SCHOOL kids. Does that make you feel tough? Do you feel like a man now? What is next, perhaps a few jokes about the handicapped?
Were you one of the kids that couldn't make the team in high school? That would explain a lot.

Cronan- I agree with you that they are not 10 year olds, and if they aren't performing, should be "told the truth" by their coaches, etc. I am honest with my own kids with regards to their successes and areas where they come up short. I believe their coaches are honest with them as well. That is entirely different than sarcastic posts in a public forum. (I am really just speaking to what I feel were poorly thought out remarks by Gino.) I think we can all sometimes forget that these are high school kids, not pros who are earning 7-8 figure salaries.

Kelly- Glad you agree. However, I believe my comments were more harsh than Gino. All Gino said was great defense York (obviously sarcasm) and frankly somebody needed to say it. Maybe these young men WILL read this and THAT will make them little angry. Again, this is football and whether we like it or not the game requires a little "bite".
